The opening UK Poker League (UKPL)the newest fruit from the 888poker and Grosvenor Casinos partnership, begins in Grosvenor G Casino in Coventry from January 16th, and one man is almost determined to be in the Midlands: Ludovic Geilich.
The popular Scot signed a sponsorship deal with Grosvenor Poker this week, making him a full member of Team Grosvenor. Geilich will fly the Grosvenor flag alongside him Katie Swift, Andy Hills, Jamie Nixon, Euan McNicholas, Matt Davenportand the winner of the 2023 National Poker League Calogero Morreale.
Geilich has played at Grosvenor events for the past 17 years. He made his first live money in a No Limit Hold’em tournament worth £220 2007 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) London Festival.
Last year, Geilich captured his first GUKPT main event title. The man who ranks third on Scotland’s all-time money list triumphed in the £1,000 GUKPT Edinburgh Main Event and recorded a profit of £79,590. He almost won another title at Blackpool towards the end of 2023 but was eliminated in fourth place for £25,230.
Between these results there was an overall victory £2,500 No Limit Hold’em High Rollerwhich was part of the 888poker LIVE Coventry Festival.
UK Poker League Coventry schedule
888poker’s UK Poker League (UKPL) is one of the most talked about additions to the UK live poker landscape. The GUKPT has dominated the live scene in the UK since its inception, but there is scope for a low to medium stakes tour offering high quality tournaments and this is where the UKPL comes into play.
The first UKPL takes place 16th-21st January at the Grosvenor G Casino in Coventry, the same location where the world famous Goliath calls home.
A No-Limit Hold’em opening trip worth £250 gets the festival going before a £1,100 High RollerNumerous live satellites and side events complement the Main Event, a £560 buy-in event with four flights.
Main Event players sit down with 30,000 chips and play continuously in 40-minute intervals, with each flight ending when only 15% of the field remains. The top 15% reach Day 2 with a min-cash in tow.
888poker creates over $20,000 in added value included in the UKPL via a leaderboard. Players earn points based on their placement in UKPL tournaments and the buy-ins of those events, with the top ten points earners receiving a prize.
