On Monday, Mike Matusow promised that the “old school” version of “The Mouth” would be released Hustler Casino Live. Two play sessions later, he proved he wasn’t just talking.
The four-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner made his first appearance on “Max Pain Monday,” a popular weekly show that features a game with lower stakes than the rest of the week. During this five-hour session, the poker legend proved his point by winning over $11,000. Well, sort of. He announced to the show’s co-owner, “I’m after you.” Nick Vertucciwho instead outpaced the rest of the table with a win of $21,000.

While Matusow didn’t stack Vertucci, he still won a lot against Max Pain Monday, the second biggest winner at the table. And on Tuesday – the “ante game” – he won even more. A lot more. The perennial Poker Hall of Fame inductee posted a win of $83,300, a significant sum in a mid-stakes game.
He was by far the biggest winner of the game, although “Luda Chris” ended the stream with a profit of $41,600, but he managed an incredible fold against Matusow in a set-over-set situation.
“JBoogs” started the hand with a raise to $300 9♠8th♠followed by a three-bet to $1,300 K♥9♦ from “Dr. H.” Luda Chris called under the gun 2♦2♣as did Matusow, who held 8th♦8th♣along with JBoogs, a regular Hustler Casino Live.
The flop came out 8th♥6♣2♠, which gives two players a set on a dry board. Matusow and Luda Chris checked their monster hands while JBoogs bet $2,000 with top pair. Dr. H laid out his cards before Luda Chris check-raised to $6,000. Matusow, whose hand was the nuts at the time, was back in action and made a small raise to $13,000 in hopes of attracting two calls.
JBoogs realized that top pair was no use against the action he was facing, so he gave up and gave Luda Chris the difficult decision of simply calling or raising. He chose the former and that J♠ appeared on the turn. The action was checked, followed by a $15,000 bet from The Mouth, who had covered his opponent. Luda Chris, $34,000 down, tanked for over four minutes before making an extraordinary fold.
Matusow was unable to get the maximum benefit from a cooler in this hand. But he won numerous big pots throughout the session, was hot and played solid poker. At the start of the stream, he won a separate set-over-set hand with the same pocket pair, but this time against Dr. H, who flopped a set of three and lost a pot of $14,975.
The former Full Tilt Poker pro built a monster stack relatively early in the show and there would be no patented “Matusow Blowup” on the day. He started strong and ended strong in his most profitable session Hustler Casino Livein which he first appeared in August 2021.
Matusow, who is passionate about reaching the Poker Hall of Fame, has not won a WSOP bracelet since 2013 Daniel Negreanu. However, last summer he was inches shy of his fifth bracelet when he took second place in the $1,500 Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better event. He also defeated Shaun Deeb in a $20,000 heads-up match last May on PokerGO. Maybe the old school Matusow still exists.
