Indonesian authorities are calling on Elon Musk-owned Company X to help combat gambling advertising. The country’s communications and information ministry wants a more efficient process for detecting and automatically removing gambling-related content.
In the current system, the ministry has to manually issue a deletion notice, which is time-consuming. X was asked to develop a tool that would automate everything.
The ministry removed 810,785 online gambling ads last year
The ministry removed 810,785 online gambling-related ads across numerous online channels last year, almost four times the total in 2022. It warned X about the issue back in January and has worked with Meta on similar issues.
Online gambling is currently illegal in Indonesia; People caught operating platforms face up to ten years in prison and significant fines.
