The Asian Poker Tour (APT) travels to Hanoi, Vietnam to close out the 2023 season in style. The APT Hanoi Billion 2023 has a guaranteed prize pool of VND60 billion (US$2.5 million) in one of the APT’s largest poker festival in its 15-year history.
Running in between 1st-10th December At the National Convention Center in Hanoi, Vietnam, the APT Hanoi Billions 2023, in partnership with the Vietnam Series of Poker (VSOP), will be the biggest poker event Vietnam has ever seen. Hanoi is a hotbed of poker and the Hanoi Billions 2023 will be the third time in 2023 and the fifth overall that the APT has made a stop there.
Hoang emerges victorious in Hanoi
The first time the APT was in Hanoi this year was in February. The VSOP Poker Club hosted the APT stop in Hanoi, which took place from February 3rd to 12th. During that time, 34 events crowned their champion, but it was the APT Hanoi Main Event that everyone wanted to win.
Participation in this main event cost 27,500,000 VND. Around 350 unique players plus 304 re-entries meant a participant count of 654 and a guaranteed busting prize pool of 15,859,500,000 VND ($675,597). Vietnamese mill Hai Nam Hoang emerged victorious in the Main Event, winning VND2,794,200,000 ($119,029) for his impressive victory.
The APT Hanoi Trophy remains in Vietnam
Three months later, the APT returned to Vietnam for deployment APT Summer Series Hanoi Festival. The Grand Loyal Poker Club Host the series May 26-June 4. The APT Summer Series Hanoi was a remarkable success, with 869 unique players from 31 countries reporting 4,341 entries over the course of the ten-day schedule, worth a whopping VND79,072,072,000 ($3,368,980).
The Main Event trophy remained in Vietnam, as it had a few months before. Duc Linh Palace was awarded VND 3,401,355,000 ($144,877)the first six-figure win in the career of the regular player from Hanoi.
The APT has become increasingly stronger
The APT has always been a popular live tour, but 2023 saw it soar off the charts. As mentioned, the APT Summer Series Hanoi paid out almost $3.4 million, but other APT stops posted even more incredible numbers.
APT Taipei caught the attention of the Asian poker community and resulted in 1,989 unique players traveling to Taiwan. In total, including re-entries, they made 9,898 purchases, creating a total wallet that was bursting at the seams at 225,123,032 TWD ($7,357,920) in the prize money, which is what it means largest and richest series in APT history.
The last time, in September, APT Icheon broke the record for an APT festival in South Korea. The festival was the largest ever, ultimately raising 8,567,468,300 KRW ($6,498,715) are won during the festival.
APT management expects the total prize money of APT Hanoi Billions to exceed even the ridiculous sums awarded in Taipei.
