The World Poker Tour heads to Australia starting September 14th

The Star Gold Coast makes final preparations for the largest and most prestigious poker festival it has ever hosted. From September 14th to 27th the World Poker Tour will take place in the city 2023 WPT Australia Festival.

While this isn’t The Star Gold Coast’s first WPT rodeo, it’s certainly the biggest, thanks to a Main Tour Main Event spanning over a year Buy-in from AUD8,000 ($5,185).. A WPT tournament of this magnitude is sure to attract some of Australia’s best players and countless more from afar.

Such luminaries are Sean Ragozini, Yita Choong, Alex Lynskey, Jarrod Thatcher, Joshua McCullyand the high stakes guru Michael Addamo All hail from Down Under and would love to be WPT champions on home soil.

Other exciting events are the Shane Warne One Day Perpetual Trophy worth A$880 charity tournament, a Opening event valued at A$1,500a No-Limit Hold’em Action Watch worth $5,000 tournament, a Mystery Bounty worth A$2,650 affair, one Super High Roller worth A$20,000and a Warm-up for the WPT World Championship worth A$10,000 Event.

The Star Gold Coast hosted the WPT Australia Festival in late 2019 and proved to be a popular World Poker Tour stop. The WPT Australia Main Event 2019 had a buy-in of A$2,500, which was funded by 658 players and created a prize pool of A$1,480,500 ($996,212).

Varma Day was crowned Main Event Champion for AUD$274,247 ($184,537) for his efforts.

The WPTDeepStacks The tour made its home on the Star Gold Coast in May 2021 and the A$1,500 Main Event drew a massive crowd of 1,113. British grinder William Davis emerged victorious, turning his initial investment into AUD$252,731 ($195,718).

Star Gold Coast managed a hat-trick at the World Poker Tour in June 2022 while hosting the WPT Prime Gold Coast Series. Yanglei took the lead against 896 entrants to take the A$201,755 ($141,413) top prize in the A$1,500 Main Event.

Play for free in the $10,400 WPT World Championship with WPT Global

The main WPT returned to the Star Gold Coast in September 2022, increasing the Main Event buy-in to AUD$5,400. Approximately 710 players attended, although the buy-in was double that of the previous edition. All of the additional prize money resulted in a top prize of AUD$647,470 ($429,077). Most recently, the AUD$2,000 WPT Prime Gold Coast Main Event took place in March 2023 Sheng Ye He won AUD$374,953 ($253,264) after battling through a crowd of 1,223 opponents.

Given the apparent popularity of live poker in Australia, the fact that the recent World Series of Poker in Las Vegas broke multiple attendance records and the Star Gold Coast is hosting dozens of satellites to the 2023 WPT Australian Main Event, there is every indication that this Tournament worth 8,000 AUD worth nothing is about to be huge.
