An Iowa woman was arrested after she allegedly spit on a police officer and a paramedic while staying at the Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf.

On Sunday, Missy Smith of East Moline, Iowa, also allegedly kicked a paramedic while shouting profanities and making threats at the hotel. Before the incident, Smith was supposed to check out of the hotel at 11 a.m. but she refused to do so.

Police searched her hotel room and found suspected marijuana, which led to a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

she threw her hands around and kicked paramedics and medical staff.”

As they believed her health needed to be checked, hotel staff called the police. The rescue workers from the Bettendorf fire department also responded. When Smith had her vital signs checked, she allegedly began screaming. According to a police report, she began “flailing her hands and kicking paramedics and medical personnel.”

As Smith was placed on a stretcher, she spit in the officer’s eye, resulting in a spit hood being placed over her face. A restraint called “The Wrap” was also placed around her legs, preventing her from kicking medical personnel. The police report states that Smith was still able to spit on staff despite the spit hood.

As a result, Smith is charged with assault against the people who help her.

Following her arrest, Smith was booked into the Scott County Jail in Iowa and her bond was set at $5,300. It is unknown if she was taken to a hospital for treatment.
